Disabled bathroom grants
So how does a persen get a grant?
Grants are provided by your local council. Customers contact their local council to obtain an application form. Alternatively go onto their website and download the forms. Carefully read the form and make a To-Do list. Various information is required such as income, pension, property tax payment, doctor’s cert and so on. A family member might assist with the forms if the client has difficulty.
The councils are very helpful in explaining the process. Bee Bathrooms will happily answer any of your questions.

Some Features of Level Access Bathrooms
- Level access shower trays and wetrooms. Clearly access is hugely important. Many people cannot get in or out of the bath. These showers allow those of reduced mobility independent showering
- Half doors are an element of disability bathrooms that clients are reluctant to choose. Half doors are very easy to open for independent showering. They also allow the carer to assist the client having a shower
- Anti-slip tiles. The council is quite strict on anti-slip tiles. Slips, trips and falls are the most common types of accidents. In this context a mechanical extraction is specified to clear the moisture laden air as quickly as possible
- The council is sometimes strict on the guidelines and don’t grant just any type of bathroom. The client may not require all the features of a specialised level access bathroom. They may complain that the council is too strict with the specification. The simple response is that the council must consider the mobility of the client now and in the future. The council must consider the long term requirements of the client
- It may not be possible to adhere to HSE guidelines or the OT specification. In this case we do the best we can. In some houses or apartments, it may not be possible to install a level access shower. There may have to be a step-in shower. The key point is that we endeavour to make the showering facility as usable as possible for the client. We adhere as closely as possible to the guidelines or specification. Any derogation must be agreed by the inspector
